International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 国际文凭

The IB Diploma Programme was first created in 1968. It is currently offered in schools in over 119 countries. It is a rigorous pre-university course of studies for students between the ages of 16 and 19.  As an international qualification it is recognised by universities throughout the world.

The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum which aims to educate the whole person. It promotes international understanding and develops the students' thinking skills and capacity to reflect and evaluate.

Each IB Diploma Student:

  • Chooses six subjects, one from each Group
  • 3 subjects are taken at Higher Level (4 hrs/week) and 3 at Standard Level (2½ hrs/week)
  • Takes the Theory of Knowledge course
  • Completes a 4,000 word Extended Essay on a subject of their choice
  • Completes 150 hours of Creativity, Action and Service

Core Components

At the centre of the Diploma Programme are the three core components: 

Students is required to complete 150 hours of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) activities over 2 years. Students must divide their activites equally between the three elements; Creativiity, Action and Service. Most activities will be organised by the school but students are encouraged to perpare some of their own CAS plans.

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

The Theory of Knowledge course is an interdisciplinary course focusing on critical thinking and knowledge issues. It examines the origins and validity of various forms of knowledge and seeks to help students become more independent and discerning thinkers.

  • Extended Essay

Students complete a 4,000 word essay in a subject of their own choice. This teaches independent research and academic writing skills which will be needed at university level. It also offers the students an opportunity to study a topic or question at greater depth.
