Christine Bacon - Admissions Officer

BSc (Hons) Mathematics PGCE - UK - Christine joined Pudong after a 9 year career break during which she brought up her daughter and followed her husband as he worked in Australia, Malaysia, Thailand and now China.  Chris grew up and studied mathematics in Scotland before moving to Oxford as a post graduate studying education at Somerville College. After teaching for several years, Chris changed careers and worked in IT, Finance, Consultancy, Sales and Marketing. She considers bringing up her daughter to be her greatest and most rewarding achievement in her life and enjoys being in the Education sector again and working alongside great professional teachers and excellent facilities.  Time permitting, Chris loves playing golf, bridge and is an avid puzzle solver.

Alison McLeod - Admissions Assistant
AMC

BA (Hons) Business Studies - UK - Alison joined the Admissions team at Pudong in May 2008 having lived in Shanghai since 2006.  Prior to that, she lived in Gloucestershire, Norway, Scotland and Nigeria with her family.  Having spent several years working in Local Government in Scotland, Alison made her first foray into the Education sector as Clerk to the Governors at a local secondary school in Gloucestershire and then worked with students with disabilities at the University of Gloucestershire.  She considers that the exposure to many different cultures at a young age has had a very positive effect on her children, and she would highly recommend that others take the opportunity to live overseas if offered it.  She enjoys working at Pudong and particularly enjoys helping new families to settle in to the school and a new city.  In her spare time, Alison enjoys visiting Shanghai’s many and varied markets, entertaining friends and exploring Asia and beyond with her family.

Mabel Zhu - Admissions Assistant

BA - China -  Mabel joined Pudong in 2008 in the role of PA to the Vice Principal and then moved to the Admissions Department a year later. Having taken Education as a Minor in college, Mabel claims that this a fantastic place for her to be employed.  “My job gives me the opportunity to be in an environment I understand and enjoy, to meet lovely children every day and to show parents just how great our school is.  I feel so proud!  Work is no longer a way to make a living, but something to enjoy.” Mabel has now started learning Japanese, aiming to communicate with Japanese parents without difficulties some day.

Appointment and Tour

Parents seeking admission for their children are invited to make an appointment with the Admissions Officer in order to view the school.  Please note that all visitors to the school are required to show some form of photographic identity at the security gate.

At that time, parents can meet the Principal and discuss at length the future educational needs of their children and how Pudong Campus can best meet these needs. The children should accompany the parents to that meeting if at all possible.

After touring the facility, parents are requested to complete an Application Form for each child and send the form(s) with the non-refundable Registration Fee of RMB 6,000 for each child from Pre Nursery to Year 13. The payment can be made by cash (RMB only), cheque (US$, GBP, HKD or RMB only) or bank transfer.

On receipt of the Registration Fee and Application Form, the Admissions Officer will confirm the offer of a place at the school. Upon acceptance a refundable deposit of 10,000 RMB  is payable to the school. The deposit will be fully refundable if all accounts have been settled in full, all school property is returned and required notice submitted.  

The British International School Shanghai, Pudong Campus reserves the right to exercise discretion on age entry criteria. Children entering from another school must provide the most recent report from their current school. Pudong Campus also reserves the right to exclude children whose behaviour or educational needs cannot be met by the school.

Application Forms  can be printed, filled in by hand and posted to us; or, as this version is writable, can be completed online and emailed to us online (if you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer); or completed and saved to your own computer and then emailed to us.
